St. Albans Fire Department Partners with UK Med Center for Essential LVAD Training Event

St. Albans, WV – The St. Albans Fire Department, in collaboration with the University of Kentucky Medical Center, is excited to announce a specialized LVAD Training Event focused on Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), set to take place at the St. Albans Fire Department Central Station on March 21st, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm. This event is aimed at equipping emergency service providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively respond to patients with LVADs in emergency situations.

As LVADs become more common in the treatment of heart disease, the need for first responders to be familiar with these devices is more critical than ever. The training session will cover the recognition of LVADs, basic operation principles, and crucial considerations for patient assessment and treatment, ensuring that emergency responders can provide the best possible care to patients relying on these life-saving devices.

LVAD Training Event Highlights:

  • Expert-Led Training: Participants will receive training from experts in the field, offering in-depth insights into the mechanics and operation of LVADs.
  • Hands-On Learning: The session will include practical advice on handling emergency situations involving LVAD patients, enhancing the preparedness of first responders.
  • Networking Opportunities: Attendees can connect with other emergency service professionals, fostering a community of well-informed responders.

The St. Albans Fire Department and UK Med Center are proud to offer this training free of charge to any emergency service agency, demonstrating their commitment to the health and safety of the community. With at least one LVAD patient currently residing in St. Albans and more expected in the future, this training is not just beneficial but necessary for local emergency services.
